In recognition of the belief that good sport can make a great difference, the 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society has declared the 2017 Canada Summer Games a True Sport event. This means that the values of fairness, excellence, inclusion and fun will be at the heart of the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games. Athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators will be encouraged to bring the True Sport Principles to life through their actions, thereby making a statement about the kind of sport they want to be a part of!
The 50th anniversary of the Canada Games is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the commitment of the host province Manitoba, in developing the first ever provincial True Sport strategy. This event provides a unique opportunity to call to action the rest of the Canadian provinces and territories to make their own commitment to values-based and principle-driven sport and help us collectively achieve quality sport in Canada.
From July 28th to August 13th, thousands of athletes will gather from across Canada to compete in the largest national multi-sport event for young athletes. Let’s use the True Sport Principles to celebrate the power of sport and ensure that this event is one that all Canadians can be proud of!
