Entering the Hottest Summer in Half a Century

It’s officially 2017 – the year Winnipeg will host the Hottest Summer in Half a Century! As the countdown continues, we look forward to the many exciting announcements and events that will get us ready for the 2017 Canada Summer Games, including:

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

The opening and closing ceremonies will be the debut and finale for the country’s largest youth sport competition! In past years, the Canada Games’ opening and closing ceremonies have seen hundreds of performers, including contemporary dancing, acrobatics, and many more. This year, you can expect to be blown away like never before!

Festival

While the Games sport competitions are on, a cultural celebration highlighting Canada’s incredible talent and heritage will take place. Along with the opening and closing ceremonies, the Games will celebrate Canada’s culture as part of the 2017 Canada Summer Games Festival presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries at The Forks.

There will be free live music, cultural activities and entertainment at The Forks to celebrate the Hottest Summer in Half a Century. The Games will announce the official line-ups and activities later this year.

Medal Design

Approximately 1,800 medals will be presented between July 28 and August 13, 2017 to successful Games competitors. Stay tuned for the unveiling of the artist tasked with designing the 2017 Canada Summer Games medals!

Individual Tickets On Sale

As of February 28, individual sport passes and medal competition passes will be available to purchase. Don’t miss your chance to watch Canada’s next generation of national, international and Olympic champions compete at your favourite sport!

Torch Relay

In 1997, the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay lit the way for the Canada Summer Games in Brandon, and this year will do the same. The Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay will stop at a number of community celebrations throughout Manitoba, and we’ll be announcing them soon.
