WINNIPEG (June 21, 2017) – The Centennial Flame in Winnipeg was re-ignited today for the first time since the 1967 Pan American Games. The 12-foot concrete structure supporting a copper cauldron has sat quietly on the median of Memorial Boulevard near the Manitoba Legislature for 50 years.

WINNIPEG (May 4, 2016) – Excitement filled the air at Dufferin School this morning, as over 250 students and staff gathered to take part in the official unveiling of the 2017 Canada Summer Games Mascot. Inspired by Manitoba’s unique culture and climate, the 2017 Games Mascot is a magical creature created by the summer heat who also embodies the spirit and youthful energy of the Canada Games. Such energy was in ample supply as students cheered wildly as the mascot took the stage.

Welcome to Winnipeg - Home of the 2017 Canada Summer Games!

WINNIPEG (January 18, 2016) – Highway commuters and visitors to Winnipeg might notice something a bit different on their drive into Winnipeg today. The iconic Welcome to Winnipeg signs will have a temporary overlay applied showing the dates of the 2017 Canada Summer Games, taking place from July 28-August 13, 2017. Installed in 2008, the signs feature the slogan “The Heart of the Continent” and welcome visitors and residents along major highways including the Trans-Canada Highway.

University of Manitoba Stadium

WINNIPEG (September 24, 2015) – Today, the 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society announced another major legacy project currently underway at the University of Manitoba. The track at University Stadium will see numerous upgrades based on a joint planning process between the 2017 Canada Summer Games, University of Manitoba, and Athletics Manitoba. The 2017 Canada Summer Games are contributing nearly two million dollars to the project, primarily to the resurfacing of the track and other enhancements to the field of play and warm up areas.
