It is with tremendous excitement that the Canada Games Council (CGC) announces that Tom Quinn, CGC Chairman since 2009, was recognized today as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement and dedication to the Canadian community and nation as a whole.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Tom has been announced as an Officer of the Order of Canada,” says Sue Hylland, Canada Games Council President and CEO. “Tom has demonstrated throughout his professional and personal life all the fundamental traits one needs to have in order to effectively service the nation and contribute to one’s community.  The Canada Games is in a better place because of his commitment, passion and dedication to our movement.”

Quinn has been a dedicated volunteer who has striven to make positive contributions to the sporting community for over 30 years. His unparalleled leadership is demonstrated throughout the multiple positions he held in a myriad of different sport organizations. Namely, Tom has held such positions as: Chairman of the Canada Games Council, Governor of ski Quebec, Board Member of the Quebec Special Olympics, Governor of the Quebec Sports Celebrities Festival, Co-president of the Fondation des Jeux du Quebec, Chairman of the Institut national Du Sport Du Quebec, among many other positions in which he led volunteer efforts towards the sport community. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition throughout his life of volunteerism at the community, provincial and national levels.

“I am delighted and humbled to receive this honour, especially for being involved in projects that have enriched my life and provided me the pleasure of meeting many great Canadians across our nation that continue to volunteer in projects to make our country a better place for our youth,” says Quinn.

Through his many professional and charitable endeavors, he was able to have a positive impact to individuals on a national scope. The primary beneficiaries of Tom’s relentless dedication and volunteer initiatives are young developing athletes as well as non-profit sport organizations.

Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System, and recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
