The 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society is pleased to welcome MNP as a Diamond Sponsor of the 2019 Games, a National Partner of the Canada Games and the presenting sponsor of the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay. Starting in fall 2018, the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay will travel from coast to coast as a national torch relay, culminating in the lighting of the Canada Games cauldron at the Opening Ceremony on February 15, 2019.
“The partners and team members of MNP, from coast to coast, are immensely proud and excited to support the Canada Winter Games and the historic Torch Relay,” said Jason Tuffs, Chief Executive Officer of MNP. “On the occasion of our firm’s 60th anniversary, we wanted to give back to our country and communities where over 4,000 MNP team members live, work and play. MNP is made in Canada. We are a Canadian firm who started in Manitoba in 1958 and now serve over 70 large and small communities across the country.”
“It was a natural fit for us to bring the torch to as many communities and Canadians as we can, as we all celebrate the 2019 Canada Winter Games, its athletes and volunteers,” said Randy Mowat, Senior VP Marketing, MNP. “We are proud to be supporting the Torch Relay and know our team members from across the country will be cheering all the way.”
“Thanks to the outstanding support from MNP, for the first time in over 50 years, the Canada Games Torch Relay will be a national event,” said Lyn Radford, Board Chair of the 2019 Canada Winter Games. “The MNP Torch Relay will bring the magic of the Canada Games to communities across the nation.”
The Torch Relay is a significant element of the Canada Games and has united communities across the nation for the past 51 years. It will officially start in Ottawa from the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill in fall 2018 and will visit over 40 communities across Canada before arriving in Red Deer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Games.
"We're thrilled to have MNP on board as a Canada Games National Partner," said Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. "The Torch Relay is always an event that brings people together as the flame that embodies the spirit of the Canada Games travels from community to community. This will be by far the biggest Torch Relay in the history of the Canada Games and the only way to make this happen is to have the perfect partner on board to pull off such a grand undertaking. MNP is the perfect partner and we can't wait to team up with them to work on this relay that will unite our nation."
“The lighting and Torch Relay of the torch represents many things, but above all it represents the power of sport to unite our country. The Torch Relay is an opportunity for Red DeerIans to participate in the community life the Canada Winter Games is building and for our fellow Canadians to become a part of the 2019 Games in their respective communities,” said City of Red Deer Mayor Tara Veer.
“Our province could not be more proud to host the 2019 Canada Winter Games! Featuring over 150 events in 19 sports, February 15 to March 3, 2019 in Red Deer, Alberta is going to be THE place to be for a spectacular sporting and cultural event,” said the Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Responsible for Sport. “The Torch Relay is an opportunity to ignite excitement across the country as we get ready to cheer on young athletes from across our great nation. As the torch makes its way through communities from coast to coast, I encourage everyone to get out and show their support!”
“I was thrilled to learn that the Torch Relay for the Red Deer 2019 Canada Winter Games will be a national event,” said the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities. “Having the spirit of the Games spread throughout Canada builds excitement and anticipation, while promoting sport to all Canadians, especially our young people.
The Government of Canada is proud to support the Canada Games and I want to thank the Host Society and its public and private partners for working together to spread the power of sport and make this Torch Relay—and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer—a huge success.”
