The Canada Games Council (CGC) has announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Canada Games Hall of Honour.
The Hall of Honour induction celebrations are designed to recognize and honour exceptional Canada Games alumni who have distinguished themselves during the Canada Games and in their careers beyond the Games, while also contributing to the development and progress of the Canada Games Movement.
Nominees are eligible for induction into one of the three following 2019 Hall of Honour categories:
Athletes: The athlete’s category recognizes past Canada Games athletes who have achieved significant success in national and/or international competition. Nominees must also have demonstrated support for the Canada Games through promotional events, community engagement or other meaningful activities.
Builders: Nominees may also be inducted into the builder’s category, where the CGC aims to recognize past coaches, officials, administrators, volunteers, sponsors or members of the media who have made outstanding efforts and impact for over ten (10) years. Nominees may be either active or inactive.
Distinguished Alumni: This is a new category for the 2019 Canada Games. A distinguished alumni is defined as any individual who has participated in a previous Canada Games (as an athlete or in another capacity) and has since gone on to meaningful accomplishments in a field other than sport. Nominees should also be leaders in their community and exemplify the highest levels of ethical leadership in their profession and their community.
Initially launched in 2007, the Hall of Honour has inducted numerous high-profile alumni over the years, including Cassie Campbell (2009), Catriona Le May Doan (2009), Senator Larry Smith (2013), Nicolas Gill (2015), and Carla MacLeod (2017). The complete list of inductees can be found here.
The Hall of Honour class of 2019 will be formally inducted during the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta in February 2019.
The deadline for Hall of Honour nominations is June 15, 2018.
