Call for Nominations King Charles III Coronation Medal Program

(Ottawa) The Canada Games Council (CGC) invites Canadians to celebrate exemplary sport and community champions on and off the field of play by nominating members of the Canada Games community for the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

A Canadian commemorative medal marking His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation on May 6, 2023, this honour recognizes 30,000 outstanding individuals of all ages and from all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities. The program is administered by the Chancellery of Honours, as part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG).

The CGC has been invited as a community partner to nominate 30 individuals who have made a profound impact on the Canada Games. The CGC will assess nominations from the Canada Games community before bringing 30 candidates forward to the OSGG for consideration.

The CGC welcomes nominations for difference makers from all 13 provinces and territories that represent as much of the history and impact of the Canada Games (1967-2023) as possible.

Canada Games participants (athletes, coaches, managers, officials, mission team members, and alumni), partners (representatives from government, Indigenous, sport and corporate partners and members of the media), and staff, leadership volunteers and Games-time volunteers of the CGC and Host Societies are all eligible to be nominated.

The CGC has established a selection committee which will review a nominee’s contributions to their community, and to Canada, specifically as it relates to the Canada Games.

The selection committee will assess how nominees have contributed to the organization’s mission – to strengthen the fabric of Canada through the power of sport – and how their actions support our vision to make the Canada Games a renowned celebration of sport that sparks greatness in future leaders, celebrates Canada’s diversity and champions sustainable communities. In particular, nominations will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment with CGC’s mission and values
  • Contributions to the Canada Games Movement, at the Games and beyond
  • Impact on Canadian sport (athletic success, innovation, achievements)
  • Impact beyond sport (contributions to their community, and to Canada)

Nominees must be individuals (not organizations) and must have been alive on May 6, 2023, the date King Charles III was crowned.

To nominate an individual for consideration, please complete the nomination form no later than November 1, 2024.
