The program is a partnership of Canada’s Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representatives (PTCRs), the Canada Games Council (CGC), and the CAC. It provides the opportunity for each province and territory to send two (2) female coaches to the Canada Games in apprenticeship roles. In 2021, the Canada Summer Games will be held in Ontario’s Niagara region.

“We are proud to once again support and develop an impressive cohort of Apprentice Coaches,” says Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “Apprentice programs are an essential part of a coach’s learning and development which is key not only to their impact but to their professional experience as women coaches."

As fully accredited members of their respective provincial/territorial team, apprentice coaches receive valuable professional development opportunities that can lead them to achieving the Competition – Development “Certified” level within the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). These benefits include exposure to domestic multi-sport games, supervision and evaluation from a dedicated mentor coach, and exposure to high performance coaches from across Canada.

"This program allows each apprentice the chance to experience the Canada Games while helping to elevate their coaching capacities on their journey to become high performance coaches and mentors. This program is one of the cornerstones of Canada's coach development system and we know from past Games that it is an incredibly valuable experience and we're proud to offer it again."
