MICHAEL STRANGE COMPETED FOR TEAM ONTARIO IN BOXING AT THE 1987 CANADA WINTER GAMES IN CAPE BRETON, NOVA SCOTIA.
An 11-time Canadian amateur boxing champion, Michael competed at the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympic Summer Games, was a gold medalist at the 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games, and was named the “Canadian Boxer of the Year” in 1996 and 1998. Michael was the first Canadian boxer to be the Closing Ceremony flag bearer at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Michael has been involved in a number of charitable efforts raising money for children’s causes. His event, “Heaters Heroes Run for Children,” was named after the late Bob “Heater” Lavelle, one of Mike’s sport mentors. This event helps children with terminal illnesses and life-altering illnesses or injuries. Over the past decade, Michael has also raised over $400,000 through his BoxRun Charitable Foundation to support childhood cancer research and the Ronald McDonald House.
