Moncton and Saint John Region to Host 2029 Canada Summer Games

Fredericton, N.B. – The Canada Games Council (CGC) is pleased to name the City of Moncton and the Saint John Region in New Brunswick as the official hosts of the 2029 Canada Summer Games.

Leaders from Moncton and Saint John collaborated on a visionary joint bid to host the top young athletes from across Canada in the largest amateur multi-sport event in the country. They have established the groundwork for a successful 32nd edition of the Canada Games – one that will create lasting legacies in both regions and the province.

The Canada Games spark greatness in the next generation of athletes and leaders and create enduring legacies that transform communities from coast to coast to coast. The Games are a key milestone in the development of Canada’s future national, international, Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympics champions.

Each Canada Summer Games features two weeks of competition, between 16 and 20 sports, approximately 4,600 participants (athletes, coaches and managers), and over 5,000 volunteers.

The Canada Games provide significant long-term benefits to champion more inclusive and sustainable communities, such as:

  • Significant positive economic impacts for the host regions and province based on Sport Tourism Canada’s Economic Impact Assessments (the two most recent Canada Games have generated more than $200 million in overall economic activity in the host province);
  • Ability to leverage significant investments by accessing funding from federal and provincial governments, as well as financial support from private donations and corporate Canada;
  • New and/or improved community infrastructure that supports sport, health and wellness;
  • Increased media exposure locally, regionally and nationally;
  • A new base of community volunteers with major event training; and,
  • A legacy of community pride and long-term benefits from hosting sport events before and after the Games.

New Brunswick has previously hosted the Canada Games twice: the 1985 Canada Summer Games in Saint John and the 2003 Canada Winter Games in Bathurst-Campbellton.
