The Québec 2027 Canada Winter Games will be contested from February 26 to March 15, 2027, marking a return to the birthplace of the Canada Games 60 years after the inaugural event held in 1967.

“The Canada Games serve as a pivotal moment in the journey of young Canadian athletes, and play an important role in the sport development pathway,” said Catherine Gosselin-Després, Chair of the CGC Sport & Games Committee. “We are delighted to finalize the sport program for the 2027 edition of the Canada Winter Games. We extend our deepest thanks to all of our National Sport Organization partners, the CGC Sport & Games Committee, and the 2027 Host Society for their unwavering collaboration throughout this process. We are excited to welcome athletes from across the country to compete in these outstanding sports at the 2027 Canada Winter Games, promising an unforgettable experience for everybody involved.”

“We are very pleased to finalize the selection of the sports that will be showcased in 2027 in Quebec City with fencing. This allows us to welcome additional athletes to the Games and encourage the development of this sport locally. This brings us to a total of 22 sports, in which high-level athletes will demonstrate their great talent and hard work,” says Denis Servais, President of the 2027 Canada Games Host Society.

The CGC’s Sport & Games Committee adhered to a transparent and objective sport selection process in which it analyzed all sports and disciplines that wished to be included in the 2027 Canada Winter Games. The total number of sports/disciplines selected for the Games are based on a participant quota that each Games must follow.

Phase one of the sport selection process, which determined 90% of the sport program, was an assessment evaluation of the impact of the applicant sports on the development of next generation athletes, on sport development at the local, provincial/territorial and national levels, and on the Canada Games Movement.

Phase two was the Host Choice selection process, and phase three was determined based on the remaining participant quota by the CGC Sport & Games Committee in consultation with the 2027 Host Society, resulting in the addition of fencing.
