The Canada Games family joins Canadians from coast to coast to coast in mourning the horrific loss of 215 children recently discovered in a mass grave at the Kamloops Residential School in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation territory. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the survivors and families of those children who never came home and to Indigenous communities across Canada.
There is much work to do on the path towards truth and reconciliation, and sport has a role to play in the process towards healing. The Canada Games movement is founded on bringing people together and strengthening communities through the power of sport. We will continue to be guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action around sport and to work with Indigenous communities in our Host cities and celebrate the excellence of Indigenous athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers at the Canada Games.
